A new innovation in Internet Protocol technology, called 6LoWPAN, is making the Internet of Things become a reality. 6LoWPAN is a standard from the IETF published in 2007, which optimizes IPv6 for use with low-power, low-bandwidth communication technologies such as IEEE 802.15.4. 6LoWPAN works by compressing 60 bytes of headers down to just 7 bytes, and optimizing mechanisms for wireless embedded networking. The IP Smart Objects Alliance actively promotes the use of embedded IP solutions in smart objects.
There is a lot to learn about 6LoWPAN and the Internet of Things. On the right side of this page you can find leading resources about 6LoWPAN, including 6LoWPAN related books, course material, white papers and links.
In this seminar Zach Shelby gives an overview of The Internet of Things and 6LoWPAN protocols (1:20).
